WHY

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Luke Mansfield

My background includes growing up and living my entire life [so far] in one rural location, within a pretty stereotypical lower-middleclass family. I am married with one child. I went to a one-room grammar school near my home where my grandmother was the teacher. I am retired from a career as an engineer and developer in the electronics, computer hardware and software design, and electrical maintenance fields. I have a BSEE [electrical engineering degree -cum laude], an MSCIS [computer science masters degree] and had a professional engineering license during my working career.  Out of engineering school my first job was at a start-up company in my area. At this time we were experiencing a dramatic transition from vacuum tubes to transistors, integrated circuits and computer technology. I was extremely fortunate to work with a small team of talented  hardware and software engineers and our president who was an entrepreneur, innovator, visionary and leader in these technologies. This group designed, developed and sold some of the first desktop computers ever made.  I believe these experiences helped  me to appreciate objective observation and to be precise, factual and attentive to detail, and as thorough, unambiguous and concise as possible in designing and documenting the operation of computer equipment.  In writing the ‘WHY’ Guide I wanted to borrow from this career and life experience.

about the book

WHY

The ‘WHY’ handbook presents and evidences that human decisions and actions are most strongly determined by our underlying basic inborn human nature and survival instincts. The uniqueness of ‘WHY’ is in bringing to light these truths that are often covered-up, hidden and de-emphasized because they oppose norms, rules and laws of society which leads to our unwillingness to concede, admit or accept these ‘inappropriate’ or questionable behaviors [the ‘WHY’ thesis].
